Cenomanian-Turonian Eagle Ford Research: Core dataset
Résumé fourni par la source
This integrated dataset contains 15 years of data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of two (Iona-1; Innes-1) Cenomanian-Turonian age shallow research cores (each >100 m long) that penetrated rhythmically interbedded calcareous mudstones, limestones and numerous bentonites that comprise the Eagle Ford Group in West Texas, as well as the underlying Salmon Creek and Buda Limestones and overlying Austin Chalk. These cores and data have been the focus of over twenty-five peer-reviewed papers. A highly resolved astronomical age model was developed constrained with high precision dating of bentonites, biostratigraphy and stable isotope stratigraphy. These data demonstrate the value of integrated, high-resolution mudstone studies (including lithology, mineralogy, inorganic and organic geochemistry, stable and radiogenic isotope, biostratigraphy, astrochronology, core photography, core and well log, and other data) —not only for regional basin analysis, tectonics and stratigraphic studies, but also for advancing our understanding of mudstones, greenhouse climate states, Cretaceous Earth system evolution and carbon cycle dynamics, and pulsing of Large Igneous Provinces. We hope others will use the data in their analyses of global Late Cretaceous.
