Infrastructure, Access, and Satisfaction: Evaluating Digital Library Services at Federal University Dutse, Nigeria
Résumé fourni par la source
This study assessed the digital library infrastructure and service effectiveness of J.D. Amin Library, Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State, Nigeria. The study identified available digital library infrastructure, examined services provided to users, assessed accessibility and utilization, determined user satisfaction, and identified challenges affecting digital library service provision and use. A quantitative approach and descriptive survey design were adopted. The study population comprised 663 registered library users during the 2024/2025 academic session. Using the Yamane (1967) formula, 250 respondents were selected through simple random sampling. Of the 250 questionnaires distributed, 213 were returned and found usable, representing an 85.2% response rate. Data were analysed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. The findings showed that basic ICT facilities, including computers, internet connectivity, and Wi-Fi, were available, whereas specialized infrastructure such as institutional repositories, OPAC, digitization equipment, and digital library platforms was limited. E-journals and e-books were the most utilized resources, while online databases, institutional repositories, and OPAC were less utilized. Users were most satisfied that digital resources met their academic needs, but reported lower satisfaction with internet speed, ease of access, and staff support. Inadequate training, low awareness, and poor internet connectivity were major challenges. The study concludes that strengthening specialized infrastructure, remote and online services, user education, and staff support is necessary to improve digital library effectiveness at J.D. Amin Library.
