Linguistics across disciplines:Arguments for collaborative research, education, and enhancedcommunication across linguistics, biomedicine, speech language pathology, and public health

Linguistics is a well-established, valuable partner to a number of professional fields, including many connected to the social and natural sciences, law, and education. In particular, the field has connections with public health and medicine, speech-language pathology, and teaching and learning. Connections across all of these fields add much to the value of linguistics in higher education and offer opportunities for linguists to make valuable higher education and professional connections. In this paper we explore some ways in which linguistics programs and linguists work with complementary fields. We address successful collaborations and interactions as well as the changing landscape against which these collaborations are being established. Our aim is to articulate a positive and broadened vision for linguistics in higher education.
