Incidental Cardiac Inflammatory Pseudotumor

Inflammatory pseudotumors (IPT) are rare benign masses found most commonly in the lung or orbit; however, they can be present in any organ.1 Cardiac IPTs are very rare and were first described in 1975 as reminiscent of “plasma cell granulomas” located in the right atrium.2 Since then, fewer than 75 cases have been reported, the majority involving the right side of the heart and a younger population (<50 years). Involvement of the mitral valve (MV) remains exceedingly rare.3 Inflammatory pseudotumors can be difficult to distinguish clinically and radiologically from other cardiac masses.
