Résumé fourni par la source

The nursing team plays an essential role in health care and is continuously exposed to physical, emotional, and organizational demands that may compromise workers' well-being and mental health. Among the factors that intensify this vulnerability are low wages, the need to maintain multiple employment relationships, and double or triple work shifts, conditions that can reduce the time available for rest, sleep, leisure, family life, and psychophysiological recovery. This study aims to analyze the impacts of work overload and low wages on the mental health of nursing teams, with emphasis on the consequences associated with prolonged working hours and multiple professional employment relationships. This is a narrative literature review based on scientific publications and institutional documents addressing occupational health, working conditions, remuneration, mental health, and professional nursing practice. The literature indicates that extended working hours, night shifts, overtime, inadequate staffing levels, insufficient professional recognition, and low remuneration may contribute to physical and mental fatigue, sleep disturbances, occupational stress, anxiety, depressive symptoms, common mental disorders, and burnout syndrome. The consequences of work overload also extend beyond the individual sphere and may negatively affect job satisfaction, increase absenteeism and presenteeism, and compromise the quality and safety of patient care. The predominance of women in nursing adds further complexity to this phenomenon, as many professionals combine multiple paid jobs with unpaid domestic and family responsibilities, resulting in workloads that extend beyond institutional settings. It is concluded that addressing psychological distress among nursing professionals requires measures that go beyond individual strategies for coping with occupational stress. Policies aimed at professional recognition, adequate remuneration, safe staffing levels, balanced work schedules, effective rest periods, and permanent institutional actions for the promotion and protection of workers' mental health are therefore essential.
