Promoting Learner Autonomy in Japanese University English Students with a 30-Day Challenge Project

This article presents the results of a survey designed to measure the effectiveness of a 30-day challenge project to promote language learner autonomy among Japanese university learners of English.The project promotes autonomy by giving students control over their own goals and daily task and holds them accountable for their effort.Although the results of the survey are not conclusive, they tentatively show that the project was a positive experience for students and may have helped them develop autonomy, perseverance, and self-determination.
