[Analysis of vestibular function characteristics in vestibular schwannomas at different stages: two case reports and literature review].

Vestibular schwannoma(VS) grows slowly, with a striking contrast in clinical manifestations at different stages. During the growth phase of VS, it often presents as an acute vestibular syndrome similar to vestibular neuritis, with prominent vestibular symptoms such as vertigo and balance disorders. However, with the slow growth of the tumor, central vestibular compensation develops promptly, resulting in the absence of typical vertigo indicative of unilateral vestibular injury, which may be inconsistent with vestibular test findings. This paper reports two cases of VS at different disease stages and their results of systematic vestibular function evaluation, and analyzes the severity, frequency bands, and compensatory status of vestibular injury from multiple perspectives. Considering the growth characteristics of VS, the clinical feature of inconsistency between patients' vestibular symptoms and objective examination results, the limitations of previous diagnoses, and the current neglect of vestibular function testing, which targets the primary lesion, this study explores the significance of systematic vestibular function evaluation in the clinical diagnosis of VS. Furthermore, integrated with the latest research advances in vestibular function associated with VS in recent years, it provides practical references for early clinical screening and the reduction of misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis.
