Determinants of Quality Family Planning Services in Sokoto State, Nigeria

This study examines determinants of quality family planning services in Sokoto State, Nigeria. Using a descriptive cross-sectional design, data were collected from 519 respondents and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings show that provider competence, socio-cultural beliefs, informed choice, and financial barriers significantly influence service quality and utilization the results indicate that provider competence is the strongest determinant of service quality, highlighting the importance of skilled healthcare personnel in delivering effective family planning services. Religious beliefs also play a major role, reflecting strong socio-cultural influences on reproductive behavior in Northern Nigeria. The high value for informed choice indicates that counseling and communication significantly improve acceptance of contraceptive methods. Financial barriers remain significant despite free services, suggesting that indirect costs still affect access. The study recommends strengthening provider capacity and addressing socio cultural constraints.
