Species level online access to European reference collections and virtual reference collections of selected groups linked to pollination systems

This deliverable describes the implementation of species-level online access to European reference collections and the creation of pilot virtual reference collections (VRCs) for selected pollinator taxa within the TETTRIs project. Species-level metadata on entomological collections and pollinator subcollections were collected through a structured survey of European institutions and published as collection descriptors in the Global Registry of Scientific Collections (GRSciColl), enabling online discovery of collection holdings even where specimens are not fully digitised. In parallel, curated VRCs were developed from expertly identified specimens and published through the DiSSCo DiSSCover portal, providing high-quality diagnostic images to support species identification, research and biodiversity monitoring. Together, these approaches demonstrate scalable methods for improving access to natural history collections and strengthening their use in pollinator identification, research and monitoring across Europe.
