Prof. Salma Abbasi’s presentation, titled “Reimagining Quality Assurance in African Higher Education: From Compliance to Trust, Transparency and Impact in the Digital Age,” explored the need for a fundamental shift in how quality assurance is understood and implemented across African higher education institutions. She emphasised that quality assurance must move beyond compliance, documentation, and regulatory requirements toward a strong quality culture built on trust, transparency, continuous improvement, and measurable impact. The presentation highlighted the transformative role of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in reshaping education, research, and assessment, while also stressing the importance of ethical AI adoption, data governance, academic integrity, and human-centred decision-making. Prof. Abbasi called on African universities to become active contributors to the global AI ecosystem by developing locally relevant solutions, strengthening digital capabilities, and building future-ready institutions that prioritise innovation, relevance, and societal impact.
