This paper introduces the concept of creative compression to describe the temporal transformation of music-making in AI-mediated environments. New digital platforms collapse traditional stages of composition and production into near-instantaneous workflows, reshaping both creative practice and cultural value. Drawing on theories of affordance, dispositif and social acceleration, the paper analyzes how prompt-based composition reconfigures musicianship at both micro and macro levels. At the micro level, creative agency shifts from embodied practice toward curation and prompt literacy. At the macro level, accelerated production contributes to cultural saturation, redefines authorship and challenges traditional notions of originality. Situating these developments within longer histories of technological mediation, the paper argues that AI-driven music exemplifies a broader “generative turn” in which artistic creation becomes distributed, accelerated and increasingly ephemeral under conditions of creative compression.
