Basidiodendron Rick Type species. Basidiodendron luteogriseum Rick. Description. Basidiomata annual, resupinate, adnate. Hymenial surface smooth, occasionally tuberculate, pruinose, continuous, becoming crustose, porose, or arachnoid upon drying. Hyphal system monomitic, generative hyphae with clamp connections. Cystidia comprising leptocystidia or gloeocystidia, subcylindrical to clavate, flexuous. Hyphidia present or absent. Basidia urniform, ovoid to ellipsoid, longitudinally septate, four-celled, involucres well-developed or indistinct. Basidiospores allantoid, cylindrical, globose to subglobose, often with a small, eccentric and asymmetric apiculus, walls smooth, warted, or spiny (Wells and Raitviir 1975). Notes. Basidiodendron was initially introduced by Rick (1938) as a monotypic genus typified by B. luteogriseum Rick. Luck-Allen (1963) reserved the genus for effused wood-inhabiting fungi with gloeocystidia and four-celled, longitudinally septate basidia. Basidiodendron is mainly characterized by an involucre-like arrangement of basidia on sinuous hyphae, with older basidia collapsed and stacked in the lower part (Wells and Raitviir 1975). Basidiodendron eyrei (Wakef.) Luck-Allen is a core member of the genus Basidiodendron and has recently been thoroughly studied by Spirin et al. (2020). The species was originally described as Sebacina eyrei Wakef. based on two specimens characterized in the protologue (Wakefield 1914). Both specimens are deposited at the Kew fungarium (K-M 000049485, K-M 000049486) and were examined in the present study. The specimen K-M 000049485 was collected in Whitby, on decorticated wood, in October 1914 by Miss G. A. Cooper, and it appears to be contaminated with microfungi. In comparison, K-M 000049486 is in good condition and contains sufficient material and was selected to serve as the lectotype of S. eyrei. Moreover, in the original description of Sebacina eyrei, an affinity to Bourdotia was speculated; therefore, it is suggested that the authority for the combination in the latter genus be cited as Bourdotia eyrei (Wakef.) Wakef. ex Bourdot & Galzin [vs. B. eyrei (Wakef.) Bourdot & Galzin].
