Dinarids in seed banks
Résumé fourni par la source
The book highlights the crucial role of seed banks in conserving plant diversity amid rapid environmental change and growing threats to biodiversity. Special emphasis is placed on the importance of local seed banks, which preserve plant species close to their natural habitats and rely on detailed knowledge of regional flora. The publication presents cooperation between the Botanical Garden of the University of Ljubljana and international institutions, particularly the Millennium Seed Bank and the Alpine Garden Society. A central focus is the project on seed conservation in the Dinaric Alps, one of Europe’s most species-rich yet underexplored regions. The book underlines the importance of international collaboration, systematic research, and long-term ex situ conservation as key foundations for safeguarding plant species for future generations.
