Examining the Influence of Leadership Styles on the among ACLEDA Bank Plc. Branch Managers in Cambodia

The rapid growth of the banking industry in Cambodia has increased the need for effective leadership strategies to enhance branch managers’ performance and maintain organizational competitiveness. Leadership styles, particularly transformational and transactional leadership, play essential roles in shaping employee motivation, trust, role clarity, and performance outcomes. However, limited studies have examined how these leadership approaches influence branch managers’ performance within the specific cultural and organizational context of Cambodian commercial banks. This study aims to examine the influence of transformational and transactional leadership styles on the performance of ACLEDA Bank Plc. branch managers in Cambodia by considering trust in leadership and role clarity as mediating factors. A quantitative research approach was employed using survey data collected from 150 ACLEDA Bank Plc. branch managers. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS 4 and AMOS. The findings indicate that transactional leadership has a stronger direct relationship with branch managers’ performance, particularly in contexts emphasizing clear targets, performance monitoring, and reward systems. Meanwhile, transformational leadership contributes indirectly by strengthening trust in leadership and supporting role clarity. This study concludes that effective leadership in banking organizations requires a balanced combination of performance-oriented management and trust-based transformational practices to enhance sustainable managerial performance.
