Herbal medicine is an ancient, diverse, and evolving science that uses phytotherapies for healing. In this chapter, the complex processes of growing, picking, sorting, drying, and storing herbs to achieve the best therapeutic properties of the plants are discussed. Basic practices, such as site selection, soil management, and sustainability, are essential for maintaining plant health. In contrast, advanced practices, such as controlled-environment agriculture and vertical farming, help improve productivity and uniformity. The drying, curing, and extraction of herbs are essential because various post-harvest physicochemical treatments can alter the quality of the final product and the content of bioactive compounds in plants. This chapter provides sophisticated insights into these methodologies to enhance the quality and potency of herbal products to conform to the current IM model.
