Role of neem (Azadirachta indica) feed additive in poultry nutrition, health and production: A review
Résumé fourni par la source
The incorporation of herbs and medicinal plants into poultry diets has gained considerable attention as a safe and natural approach for enhancing immune function, preventing and managing diseases, and promoting growth. These plant-based feed additives may consequently improve the productive performance and overall health of poultry. In recent years, the use of antibiotics as growth promoters has been restricted or prohibited in many countries because of concerns regarding their adverse effects on consumers and the persistence of antibiotic residues in poultry tissues. Neem contains numerous biologically active compounds that exhibit a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities. These compounds have been reported to possess antibacterial, antiviral, antimalarial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, making neem an important medicinal plant for both human and veterinary applications. The present review focuses on recent research concerning neem, one of the most important medicinal and multipurpose plants traditionally used in India. Neem (Azadirachta indica) is widely regarded as one of the most valuable traditional medicinal plants in India. Almost every part of the neem tree possesses therapeutic properties and therefore has considerable commercial potential. Over the past five decades, substantial progress has been made in understanding the chemical constituents of neem, as well as their biological activities and medicinal applications. Neem is currently recognized as a valuable source of unique natural compounds with potential applications in the development of therapeutic agents for various diseases and in the manufacture of industrial products. This review provides an overview of the biological activities of selected neem compounds, the pharmacological effects of neem extracts, clinical investigations, potential medicinal applications, and their safety profiles.
