How Labor Management in Defence Is Affected by Biases on NATO's Eastern Flank: The Romanian Example
Résumé fourni par la source
The increase of personnel numbers in defence has become a top priority for defence structures on the Eastern Flank following the war in Ukraine that has developed following the February 2022 invasion from the Russian Federation. Most countries that form NATO's Eastern Border have found out, however, that the modern process of recruitment in the military is a complicated and difficult one. Biases related to the military, a competitive private sector that is increasing in the emergent economies that have developed in countries like Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, or Bulgaria, have created an environment where the military finds itself in a dilemma on how to pursue workforce that might be incentivized to join the armed forces. The aim of this chapter is to understand where the above-mentioned nations find themselves in managing this overall process. While a descriptive analysis will be used to narrowly present the situation in each country, an emphasis will be made on the Romanian example, with a more in-depth analysis having the purpose to further break down the strategy concerning the personnel selection and recruitment process in this case.
