Canon Law is one of the oldest legal traditions in the Western world and has significantly influenced the institutional and legal development of the Caribbean. This study analyzes its historical evolution from Spanish colonization to the present through a historical-legal and documentary approach. The findings show its influence on justice, marriage, education, social organization, and Church–State relations. Despite secularization and state codification, elements of the canonical tradition remain present in contemporary Caribbean legal systems. The study concludes that Canon Law is essential for understanding the historical development and legal culture of the region.
