An analytical study of criminal practices in grassroots sports: Evidence from Indian competitive structures

The fast growth of grassroots and school-level sports in India has provide countless opportunities for young athletes. Everyone wants to participate in sports around the world, skilled and talented players are identifying early and it’s become a chance to be famous in the world through the sports. Parallel to this growth, the unethical and illegal activities in sports also increasing rapidly, that effecting sports. Doping, match fixing, age fraud, unfair selection process are recorded highly. This research indicates or centralizes the illegal activities and fraud in professional sports. On the other hand, there is no attention on illegal activities at grassroots level of academics. Despite the fact grassroots level is crucial to built players future career and shape the sports culture in country (Gorse & Chadwick, 2011; UNESCO, 2019). This study aims to investigate the scope of unethical and criminal practices in grassroots sports in India, along with the factors that uncourage such behavior and its impact on the sports system. This research used a mixed method to obtain accurate results. Primary data was collected directly from athletes, coaches, and sports administrators. In addition, the research also utilized secondary data from government policies and news reports (specifically, articles in The Times of India). These two distinct data sources were used to obtain accurate results. These findings highlight the structural problems that exist at the grassroots level in sports.
