Promoting environmentally responsible repeat visitation has become increasingly important for the long-term sustainability of tourism destinations. However, existing studies have primarily focused on general revisit intention, providing limited understanding of the psychological mechanisms that shape tourists’ responsible revisit intentions. This study examines how green tourism experiences influence responsible revisit intention through personal values, memorable tourism experiences, and episodic future thinking. Data were collected from 1,044 international tourists visiting Nha Trang Bay and Ha Long Bay and analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling. The findings reveal that green tourism experiences, personal values, memorable tourism experiences, and episodic future thinking all positively influence responsible revisit intention. Memorable tourism experiences play a central mediating role by linking green tourism experiences and personal values to both episodic future thinking and responsible revisit intention. Furthermore, episodic future thinking not only directly enhances responsible revisit intention but also strengthens the relationship between memorable tourism experiences and responsible revisit intention. This study contributes to sustainable tourism research by conceptualising responsible revisit intention as a sustainability-oriented extension of traditional revisit intention and by integrating future-oriented cognition into the stimulus–organism–response framework. The findings provide practical insights for destination managers seeking to design green tourism experiences that foster meaningful memories, strengthen future-oriented thinking, and encourage responsible repeat visitation in coastal tourism destinations.
