Ophiopogon japonicus (Thunb.) Ker Gawl. (Asparagaceae), a new record for India

During a floristic exploration in Arunachal Pradesh, Eastern Himalaya, a unique taxon Ophiopogon japonicus (Thunb.) Ker Gawl. was recorded. A detailed scrutiny of the characters observed in the field, the literature and the authentic herbarium specimens revealed that the taxon is a new record to the flora of India. A detailed morphological description, illustration, accompanied by field and microscopic photographs have been provided. A details identification key for alien species of Ophiopogon is also provided to facilitate accurate identification. The present finding extends the known distributional range of O. japonicus within the Indian sub-continent.
