Assessing ammonia over a Portuguese region
Résumé fourni par la source
This dataset contains atmospheric ammonia (NH₃) concentration measurements collected in the Aveiro region (Portugal), covering contrasting land-use types, including urban, agricultural, forest and natural wetland environments. Data were collected through two complementary field campaigns: (i) a long-term monitoring campaign conducted from November 2024 to November 2025, with biweekly measurements at three fixed sites representing urban, natural and agricultural environments to assess temporal and seasonal variability; and (ii) a short-term intensive campaign conducted between April and May 2025, with measurements at 18 sites (12 agricultural and 6 forest locations) to characterize the spatial variability of NH₃ concentrations. Atmospheric NH₃ concentrations were measured using passive diffusion samplers equipped with Radiello® RAD168 ammonia cartridges. After each exposure period, samples were retrieved, transported under refrigerated conditions, stored at 4 °C, and analysed by visible spectrophotometry. Quality assurance and quality control procedures included duplicate samplers and field blanks to evaluate sampling precision and potential contamination during handling, transport and storage. The dataset was collected as part of a study investigating the spatial and temporal variability of atmospheric NH₃ concentrations in the Aveiro region and providing observational data for the evaluation of air quality model performance in a heterogeneous coastal landscape.
