The Role of Serum Resistin, Il-6 in Obesity Linked Metabolic Disorders

Background: Obesity is a major global health concern and is strongly associated with metabolic disorders, including insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular complications. Resistin and interleukin-6 (IL-6) have been implicated in obesity-associated inflammation and metabolic dysfunction. Objective: The purpose of the study is to investigate the relation of circulating level of Resistin levels and IL-6 as an inflammatory cytokine to body mass index and lipid profile in obesity.-related metabolic disorders. Methods: This cross-sectional study included population comprising individuals with obesity and an appropriate non-obese control group was evaluated. Anthropometric parameters, including body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference, were recorded. Biochemical parameters such as fasting blood glucose, lipid profile, were assessed using standard laboratory methods. Serum resistin and IL-6 concentrations were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Associations between serum resistin, IL-6, anthropometric measurements, and metabolic parameters were analyzed using appropriate statistical methods. Results: Individuals with obesity demonstrated altered serum concentrations of resistin and IL-6 compared with non-obese individuals. Increased levels of these inflammatory biomarkers were associated with greater adiposity and adverse metabolic characteristics, including impaired glucose regulation and an unfavorable lipid profile. Conclusion: Elevated serum resistin and IL-6 may contribute to the pathophysiological link between obesity, chronic low-grade inflammation, and metabolic dysfunction. These biomarkers may have potential value in identifying individuals at increased risk of obesity-associated metabolic complications.
