Ethnopharmacological and ecological aspects of Ganoderma applanatum (Ganodermataceae)

Ganoderma applanatum is commonly known as the Artist’s Conk or Artist’s Bracket. It is one of the most widely distributed wood-decaying fungi belonging to the family Ganodermataceae. The species is well known for its medicinal potential, ecological significance and distinctive perennial woody basidiomata. Its diverse bioactive compounds and potential applications in biotechnology have attracted considerable scientific interest. Considering its ecological and ethnopharmacological importance, the present study aims to document the ethnopharmacological uses, ecological significance and associated traditional knowledge of G. applanatum. The study also highlighted the importance of conserving and promoting research on wild mushrooms of India and their potential contributions to human well-being and ecosystem functioning.
