Somewhere Over the Rainbow: Introducing the EHPS LGBTQIA+ Research Special Interest Group

The pursuit of health and well-being remains a fundamental priority for populations with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and sex characteristics (LGBTQIA+). Despite the unique position of health psychology to address these needs, LGBTQIA+ perspectives have historically been underrepresented within the European Health Psychology Society (EHPS). Following a series of roundtables and a formal launch meeting at the 2025 EHPS conference in Groningen, this article signifies the official launch of the LGBTQIA+ Research Special Interest Group (SIG). We outline the SIG’s foundational mission and strategic agenda, structured around three core pillars: (1) Visibility and Institutional Advocacy, (2) Conference Inclusivity and Best Practice, and (3) Community Building and Knowledge Translation. This article serves as the definitive record of the SIG’s launch and provides a roadmap for advancing inclusive, evidence-based health psychology in Europe and beyond.
