A STUDY OF DIGITAL MARKETING IN INDIA- OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES
Résumé fourni par la source
Digital marketing has emerged as a significant driver of business growth and consumer engagement in India, supported by rapid internet penetration, smartphone adoption, social media usage, e-commerce, and artificial intelligence. In January 2025, there were over 806 million internet users in India, and there were about 491 million social media user identities. This shows how much enterprises may benefit from digital platforms. According to FICCI-EY, India's digital advertising market rose by 26% in 2025 to ₹94,700 crore, accounting for nearly two-thirds of total advertising sales, demonstrating the tremendous expansion of digital advertising. With the help of social media, search engines, influencer marketing, short-form video, OTT platforms, and e-commerce advertising, businesses—especially start-ups, MSMEs, and direct-to-consumer brands—can now reach larger and more focused audiences. The present study examines the opportunities and challenges of digital marketing in India, focusing on changing consumer behaviour, technological developments, and emerging marketing practices. Personalized marketing, data analytics, regional-language content, social commerce, influencer marketing, AI-enabled customer engagement, and the expanding digital consumer base in Tier II and Tier III cities, as well as rural areas, are all significant prospects. However, businesses also face challenges such as the digital divide, data privacy, cybersecurity risks, misinformation, intense competition, changing platform algorithms, consumer trust, and the shortage of skilled digital professionals. The study concludes that digital marketing provides significant opportunities for Indian businesses, but long-term growth will be dependent on responsible technology use, consumer data protection, localized strategies, ongoing skill development, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing digital trends.
