Invisible knowledge work and the transformation and scaling of open science practices

Open Science is Team Science; it requires contributions from both academics and support staff, the latter often invisible. We investigate the invisible labour underlying Open Science, how its (in)visibility is made, and how it assists the promotion of open science throughout academia. Our project asks how invisible knowledge labour transforms and scales up open science practices. We focus on university librarians, data stewards, and statisticians—less visible but crucial knowledge workers— whose essential contributions need support and recognition in order to sustainably and responsibly carry Open Science forward to the benefit of all.
