Training on the cropping calendar agro-advisory platform and the pre-scaling seasonal field protocol

The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, in collaboration with INSTI, conducted a series of district-level trainings from 22 to 27 June 2026 to prepare Agricultural Extension Agents (AEAs) for the implementation of the 2026 Cropping Calendar Pre-Scaling Seasonal Field Protocol in 18 districts across the Northern and Upper West Regions of Ghana. The training covered the objectives and implementation procedures of the Seasonal Field Protocol, use of the Cropping Calendar Agro-Advisories Platform, generation and interpretation of location-specific agro-advisories, and standardised field monitoring and digital data collection procedures using ODK. Practical sessions enabled participants to generate agro-advisories and apply field monitoring protocols for crop establishment, crop management, and crop-cutting activities. Discussions addressed implementation logistics, farmer engagement, and data quality assurance. By the end of the training, participants demonstrated improved understanding of the protocol, increased confidence in using the advisory platform, and enhanced capacity to support season-long advisory delivery and high-quality field data collection for evaluating the effectiveness of climate-informed agricultural advisories in Ghana.
