Assessing Osteopathic Medical Students' Knowledge of Ophthalmic Pathologies and Ethnic Disparities
Résumé fourni par la source
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 12 million Americans over 40 today are affected by vision impairment, primarily due to age-related eye diseases such as cataracts and diabetic retinopathy, which impact 24.4 million and 7.7 million individuals, respectively. Ethnic disparities further exacerbate disease burden, with non-Hispanic Black individuals experiencing significantly higher rates of diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. These inequities highlight the need for targeted screening and education. Integrating ophthalmology into osteopathic medical curricula is essential for preparing future physicians to address these challenges.
