Development and Real-Vehicle Validation of an Around View Monitor Evaluation System for Parking Experience

With regard to surround view systems, after they have been broadly applied in mass - produced cars, one must consider them as part of the factors influencing parking safety or satisfaction .Yet at present no full industry evaluation exists — neither theoretical nor practical — that meets driver needs by combining objective data with subjective impressions .The present article is devoted mainly to problems arising in basic parking situations, and by means of user surveys, of the Delphi method, and of hierarchical analysis, a surround-view evaluation plan is proposed—one with four components: viewing angle, activation time, real - scene proportion, and stitching quality .It was applied to 31 common models currently available on the market .The data suggest that stitching quality affects the whole experience more than any other factor .The evaluation idea seems well suited for detecting differences, and it gives carmakers a solid basis for design choices or for standard-setting purposes.
