Conserving biodiversity has been recognised as a significant global action, particularly under the framework of the United Nations. A wide range of international stakeholders have been involved in shaping global biodiversity governance. It is thus important to explore the features of global biodiversity politics and governance. This work finds that global biodiversity governance has been constructed across a range of international institutions and the involvement of different stakeholders. It argues that while the global biodiversity governance has been fragmented across existing international institutions, it has been identified within a wide range of international environmental institutions, and it has even been mainstreamed into the agenda of global governance. Outlining a general picture of global biodiversity politics reveals the complexity of the interlinks between the political dimension of global governance and the natural dimension of biodiversity conservation.
