Le résumé fourni par la source
The use of encapsulated rejuvenators in asphalt mixtures is gaining increasing attention as a self-healing technique to enhance pavement durability. Nevertheless, several key aspects require further investigation before industrial implementation, including a more comprehensive understanding of the micromechanisms governing capsule activation and the quantification of healing efficiency under different loading and environmental conditions. This work presents recent advances addressing several of these issues, highlighting the collaborative and interdisciplinary efforts of three laboratories. An experimental plan was designed to quantify the release rate of the healing agent under conditions representative of mixing, compaction, and field operation, and to evaluate the healing capacity of asphalt mortars using fatigue–healing and semi-circular bending (SCB) fracture–healing tests. The results provide insight into the mechanisms controlling fracture recovery and self-healing efficiency in asphalt mixtures containing encapsulated rejuvenators. They also demonstrate the potential of the technique when applied under appropriate field conditions.
