Database management and integrating different types of information to characterize vegetable crops of the Solanaceae collection in the National Genebank of Bulgaria

Plant descriptors used in genebanks provide a standardized way to describe plant genetic resources. They provide consistent documentation and exchange of information between different communications and research projects. These descriptors are essential for the effective conservation, use, and management of plant germplasm. Germplasm stored in genebanks is not fully utilized for several reasons, the most important of which are lack of evaluation and limited access to information. One way that can help is to provide adequate data for highlighting and evaluating and effectively managing. Generating more information on vegetable crop specimens stored in а genebank will significantly improve the use of ex situ germplasm. Computerized information can be easily exchanged and analyzed to ensure better management of the Solanaceae collection and to derive greater benefit from the stored accessions. The use of intelligent components in the national genebank information system will improve the management of processes related to the storage of the gene pool. This will increase user access, as well as the opportunities for it to solve the challenges facing agricultural science and practice.
