Le résumé fourni par la source
The natural range of a species is shaped by a complex interplay of biotic and abiotic factors, including climate, habitat availability, food resources, interactions with other species, geographical barriers, and genetic factors (Sexton et al. 2009).The Atlantic menhaden (Brevoortia tyrannus (Latrobe, 1802)) is native to the western North Atlantic, where it occurs along the eastern coast of North America from northern Florida to Nova Scotia (Munroe and Nizinski 2003).In addition to this well-established and documented range, 189 records from around Greenland and Iceland are available through GBIF, derived from the Arctic Species Trend Index (ASTI 2026), a component of the Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) monitoring programme. This dataset compiles long-term (1950-present) population monitoring data for Arctic vertebrates from a range of sources, including governmental surveys and academic studies. While the dataset originates from a major international monitoring initiative and is therefore likely subject to standardized quality-control procedures, the level of validation of individual records remains sometimes uncertain. No other confirmed records of Atlantic menhaden exist from the eastern Atlantic Ocean. In 2020, however, a specimen was captured in the Dutch part of the Scheldt Estuary. Here, we report this remarkable observation and discuss its implications for the potential establishment of Atlantic menhaden in northwestern Europe.
