Composição arbórea e índice de árvores por quilômetro linear: planejamento e gestão urbana
Le résumé fourni par la source
Urban tree cover provides important environmental services along roads with heavy vehicular traffic, where mitigating air pollutants is a recurring challenge. This study evaluated the tree composition along Avenida Caxangá (Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil) by describing its floristic composition, species richness, and individual abundance, and by applying the Trees per Linear Kilometer Index as a metric to support urban tree-planting planning. The trees were inventoried and classified by family, genus, and species, and grouped according to origin (native or exotic). In total, 505 individuals were recorded across 11 families, 27 genera, and 30 species, with Fabaceae and Arecaceae being the most representative families. The Trees per Linear Kilometer Index (84.16 trees km⁻¹) corresponds to the medium tree cover category (61-100 trees km⁻¹). Although this indicates an intermediate linear density, extensive treeless stretches, especially in the central median, limit the potential for ecosystem services, suggesting the introduction of native species with well-developed canopies to increase the index.
