2ES: updates on the Second Earth Spectrograph

We present an update on the development of the Second Earth Spectrograph (2ES), a fiber-fed, high-resolution, extreme-precision radial-velocity echelle spectrograph for the 2.2m ESO/MPG telescope at La Silla Observatory, Chile. The instrument will provide spectral coverage from approximately 370nm to 890nm at a resolving power of R ∼ 120, 000. The project has partially progressed from the design phase into procurement, with most major optical components either delivered or in fabrication. The mechanical design is nearing completion, while development of the telescope front end is ongoing. The optical fibers have been procured and are currently undergoing performance characterization. We also report on the current status of the detector and cryostat, the fiber-feed system including the double scrambler and pupil slicer, the calibration unit, the dedicated solar telescope, and the thermal management system.
