Mixed conducting Ca0.5Sr0.5Fe0.2Mn0.8O3-δ membranes for energy production by internal combustion of Ammonia
Résumé fourni par la source
(CSFM5528) is a Mixed Ionic Electronic Conductor (MIEC) whose perovskite structure has oxygen vacancies which allow for oxygen permeation through the material. So far, CSFM5528 has received little attention as a MIEC because of a relatively low permeation rates below 1000 °C. Within this work, the material was used in a membrane reactor (MB) for ammonia combustion to supply oxygen directly for the oxidation reaction, enabling reaction driven oxygen transport. Ammonia can be used as a synthetic carbon free fuel in internal combustion engines (ICE). The new MR process reduces the energy demand for air compression and oxygen separation. CSFM5528 shows high oxygen permeation up to at a temperature of 1200 °C and 20 mbar vacuum pressure. The material does not show any signs of chemical degradation upon ammonia exposure during operation. The crystal structure remains cubic up to 1300 °C. However, the membrane tube used for combustion broke during cooling down, probably caused by chemically induced stress. FTIR (Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) and GC (Gas Chromatography) analysis indicate complete oxidation of ammonia without significant formation of critical emissions.
