Sumatra Segmentation and Aftershocks Deployment (ZB2007-2009)
Résumé fourni par la source
The seismic network was deployed as part of the NERC-funded UK Sumatra consortium. Its first phase involved the deployment of stations on the southern Mentawai islands and Enggano as well as West Sumatra and Bengkulu provinces on the mainland in order to record aftershocks of the 2007 Mw 8.4 Bengkulu earthquakes. The second phase involved the deployment of seismic stations on Siberut, the Batu islands and Nias and in West and North Sumatra provinces to characterise the interseismic seismicity and seismic velocity structure in the unruptured Padang segment. The network contains a mix of (mostly) Güralp CMG-6T force-feedback instrument with narrow sensitivity range, and Nanometrics Trillium 120P and Güralp CMG-3T broadband instruments. It is complemented by a deployment of 10 ocean bottom seismometers for long-term recording deployed during Sonne cruise SO198 and recovered during Sonne cruise SO200. This project was supported by NERC Geophysical Equipment Facility instrument loans (SeisUK) 828 - Subduction zone segmentation and controls on earthquake rupture: The 2004 and 2005 Sumatra earthquakes - Seismicity and deep structure and 858 - Aftershock study of the 2007 Sumatran earthquakes: aftershocks and postseismic stress diffusion.
