Since their discovery in 1968, pulsars have served as laboratories to study extreme physics. Pulsars are born out of core-collapse supernovae, however their early life and subsequent evolution are still poorly understood. SN 1987A was a core-collapse supernova from a blue supergiant star in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), which was discovered in 1987. The discovery of this source was associated with neutrino detection, which strongly suggested the birth of a young pulsar. There have been multiple radio campaigns spanning ~3 decades to find dispersed radio pulsations from the source. However, no dispersed signal has been found to date. The lack of detection has mainly been attributed to the dense surrounding nebula, which could obscure radio emission, though the nebula is expected to become less dense over time as it expands. Recently, James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) observations revealed Argon emission lines near the centre of the source, which suggests the presence of a central neutron star. Hence, coupled with evidence of the possibility of a central neutron star and the advances in the software and hardware instrumentation since the last search for a pulsar using Murriyang in 2018 (e.g., wide bandwidth instruments such as the UWL, high-frequency MARS receiver, robust subbanded search algorithms), we plan to conduct a fresh search for a pulsar at the center of SN 1987A. A detection of any radio pulses in the proposed search will provide crucial insights into the birth and evolution of a pulsar from such early stages.
