High resolution measurements in the Boulogne sur mer harbor (eastern English Channel): instrumented buoy “Ponton Providence”.

The “Providence Pontoon” buoy was deployed at the end of the pontoon of the same name, in front of the Ifremer Manche Mer du Nord centre, in June 2026. It complements the observation and monitoring system developed and operated by the Environment and Resources Laboratory (COAST Unit). This system includes the MAREL Carnot high-temporal-resolution automated monitoring station (https://doi.org/10.17882/39754), as well as the coastal–offshore REPHY (https://doi.org/10.17882/47248), SRN (https://doi.org/10.17882/50832), and PhytObs-network (IR ILICO, https://doi.org/10.17882/85178) transects. The buoy is a YSI DB600 model equipped with an Ai1 communication head (YSI), which enables real-time data transmission via the 4G network. It is 1.20 m high, weighs 21 kg, and has a draft of 90 cm. The buoy consists of a 60 cm-diameter float and a stainless-steel tube housing the probe. It is equipped with a YSI EXO2 multiparameter sonde fitted with the following sensors: conductivity/salinity (PSU), temperature (°C), turbidity (FNU), chlorophyll/phycoerythrin (RFU), dissolved oxygen (mg/L), and pH. A central wiper is also installed to clean the sensors between measurements. The data acquisition interval is set to 20 minutes. At present, data are retrieved manually on a daily basis using the DevConfig software. The file contains the raw data as well as the so-called adjusted data, following the application of a filter corresponding to the sensors' measurement ranges.
