The aim is to develop a description of the range of definition and roles of community, lay or peer health navigators– that identifies core or areas of overlap in diverse programs and areas for adaptation to context. The specific research questions • What are the definitions, roles, scope of practice or responsibilities of community, lay or peer health navigator positions described in Australian research? • What are the requirements or criteria for recruitment or employment including characteristics, remuneration/incentives, experience, qualifications, training (before or after recruitment) and supervision? • How do these vary according to population served, health or social system, organisational context (including financing and program support, and navigation problem(s) addressed?
