BETWEEN FREIRE AND FREYRE: EDUCATION, POWER, AND SOCIAL RELATIONS IN THE FORMATION OF BRAZILIAN SOCIETY

This study analyzes, based on Paulo Freire's thought and Historical-Dialectical Materialism, the social, educational, and power relations present in Casa-Grande & Senzala, by Gilberto Freyre, establishing a dialogue with Freirean conceptions of education, oppression, and freedom. This is a qualitative and bibliographic study based on books and other sources of scientific production, according to Gil (2008). For the analysis, categories were used to identify and interpret the relations between education and capitalism, power and hegemony relations, and the relationship between subjectivity and objectivity. The analysis shows that historical marks of oppression can still be perceived in contemporary social and educational relations, indicating the need to broaden the debate and opening possibilities for further research.
