The influence of social capital on organizational resilience: a systematic literature review

Abstract This study examines past studies concerning the relationship between social capital and organizational resilience. Forty-nine articles are selected from Scopus and Web of Science (WOS) from 2000 to 2024 by using PRISMA method. Descriptive analysis shows that the study on relationship between social capital and organizational resilience increased in recent years particularly after COVID-19. Major studies focused on developing countries, SMEs and manufacturing enterprises. The occurrence of COVID-19 provided a context in studying organizational resilience. There are three themes in this field, including the conceptualization of organizational resilience, various types of social capital and their impact on organizational resilience, and moderators and mediators in their relationship. Current study suggests advancing the study on mechanism and boundary conditions in social capital and organizational resilience relationship, to combine qualitative and quantitative methods, to adopt contingency perspective in theory adoption. Additionally, guides future research in current field and provides reference for organizations in prioritizing the appropriate dimensions of social capital in accordance with the micro-level and macro-level characteristics.
