Le résumé fourni par la source

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a multisystem genetic disease characterized by progressive alterations, particularly in the respiratory tract, in which recurrent infections and the presence of different microorganisms may be associated with clinical impairment in affected patients. Considering the relevance of understanding the microbiological profile for clinical follow-up and the scarcity of regional information on the main microorganisms identified in individuals with CF in the Brazilian Amazon, this study aimed to characterize the clinical and microbiological profile of patients with CF followed at a reference center in the state of Pará, identifying the main microorganisms isolated and evaluating their relationship with the clinical classification of the disease. To this end, a retrospective, observational, and descriptive study was conducted based on the analysis of medical records and microbiological culture results from 145 patients followed at the João de Barros Barreto University Hospital. Sociodemographic, clinical, and microbiological information was analyzed, including microorganisms identified in respiratory samples and clinical classification according to the Shwachman-Kulczycki score. Accordingly, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus were the predominant microorganisms isolated, with a higher frequency of multiple isolates and P. aeruginosa among patients classified within the moderate and severe clinical categories; however, the association between the number of microorganisms isolated and the Shwachman-Kulczycki score was not statistically significant. These findings indicate that characterization of the microbiological profile and its systematic monitoring are relevant to the follow-up of patients with CF, contributing to the identification of respiratory pathogens and to the improvement of microbiological surveillance and clinical management strategies in the population studied.
