Le résumé fourni par la source

Thymus vulgaris L. (thyme) is a medicinal herb traditionally used in Iranian and Mediterranean medicine for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. This systematic review, conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines, evaluated evidence regarding thyme’s role in postpartum placental expulsion. Studies published between 2015 and 2025 were searched; 180 records were identified, 58 full texts were assessed, and 35 studies met the inclusion criteria. Thymol, carvacrol, and rosmarinic acid promoted uterine contractions by modulating oxytocin receptors and calcium channels. In animal studies, thyme oil at 50 mg/kg accelerated placental expulsion and enhanced antioxidant capacity. Early human evidence indicated a shorter third stage of labor and reduced postpartum hemorrhage. Additional antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities may support postpartum recovery. Despite promising preclinical and clinical findings, evidence remains limited by the lack of large randomized trials, standardized preparations, and safety data during lactation, warranting further investigation before routine obstetric use.
