HEMATOLOGICAL AND SERUM METABOLIC RESPONSES OF COBB-500 BROILERS TO A CHITOSAN-WHEY POWDER COMPLEX DELIVERED THROUGH DRINKING WATER

This conference paper evaluates selected hematological and serum metabolic responses of Cobb-500 broiler chickens receiving a chitosan-whey powder complex through drinking water. One hundred-day-old chicks were assigned to four groups of 25 birds. The experimental groups received 40, 60, or 80 mg/bird/day of the complex for 42 days. Blood was sampled from five representative birds per group on days 1, 14, 28, and 42. The main statistically supported response was recorded on day 28, when hemoglobin in the 60 mg group reached 116.02 +/- 2.11 g/L versus 109.18 +/- 1.24 g/L in the control (P < 0.05). At day 42, erythrocytes, leukocytes, hemoglobin, total protein, and glucose showed numerical differences but did not reach statistical significance. The results therefore indicate a limited, age-specific hematological response rather than a uniform dose-dependent stimulation of hematopoiesis or immunity.
