Quantum efficiency of the Speedster-EXD550 hybrid CMOS detector in the soft X-ray band
Résumé fourni par la source
We present quantum efficiency (QE) measurements of four Speedster-EXD550 X-ray hybrid CMOS detectors (HCDs) at two discrete calibration energies within the soft X-ray energy range (0.1 to 10 keV). QE measurements were obtained at Penn State’s 47-m X-ray beamline during the BlackCAT CubeSat calibration campaign, specifically for the four detectors comprising the focal plane assembly of BlackCAT. The QE of the Speedster-EXD550 was measured using a gas-flow proportional counter as a reference detector. QE data were collected at a temperature of 233 K in full-frame readout mode at rates of ∼152 frames/second using the optimized flight settings. The Speedster-EXD550 HCDs with high QE offer high sensitivity, enabling observation of faint and low-count astrophysical sources, i.e., gamma-ray bursts and X-ray transients, where the fast readout speed will enable observation of bright X-ray sources without pileup. We present the measurements of the QE and energy resolution of the Speedster-EXD550 HCDs at the Al Kα/Kβ energies (1.49/1.56 keV) and the Mn Kα/Kβ energies (5.90/6.49 keV). The effective QE, energy resolution, and impact of read noise are discussed in detail.
