The Dynamics of Ceasefire Violations in theInformation Discourse of the Defence Army of the Republic of Artsakh

This article critically examines the dynamics of ceasefire violations in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and their institutional representation, drawing on materials published in Martik, the official newspaper of the Defence Army of the Republic of Artsakh. The study demonstrates that ceasefire violations were not confined to isolated incidents; rather, they evolved into a stabilized pattern of “protracted low-intensity conflict,” shaped by the absence of a political settlement, a structural deficit of mutual trust, and, in particular, the militarized policy pursued by the Azerbaijani side. A critical reading of the sources reveals that, within the official informational discourse, ceasefire violations were systematically attributed to the adversary’s provocative strategy, whereas the actions of the Armenian side were represented as deterrent and defensive in nature, thereby constructing a distinct normative and evaluative framework. At the same time, the official press registered a correlation between the intensification of ceasefire violations and periods of heightened international diplomatic activity, allowing the author to suggest that the instrumentalization of border tensions served the purpose of conveying political signals, exerting pressure on the Armenian sides, and advancing other strategic objectives. Thus, the materials published in the official newspaper Martik are examined not only as a documentary source, but also as a discursive platform through which the official perception of the conflict is constructed and reproduced.
