Dataset on mixture toxicity effects of widespread organic pollutants to soil invertebrates and soil respiration at effective and environmental concentrations

The data summarize the results of standardized 28- day reproduction tests with the soil invertebrates Enchytraeus crypticus (OECD 220) and Folsomia candida (OECD 232), as well as with the soil microbial community on the endpoints soil respiration (OECD 217) and nitrification (OECD 216). The animals were exposed in three different test soils from the Refesol system (Fraunhofer IME, Schmallenberg, Germany): a sandy soil (S, Refesol 01-A), a sandy-organic soil (SO, Refesol 04-A) and a loamy soil (L, Refesol 05-G). The soils were spiked with up to four different substances: either as single substances, as binary or ternary mixtures at effective concentrations, or as quaternary mixture at three concentration levels in the range of predicted environmental concentrations (PEC low, PEC, PEC high) . The substances are the PAH fluoranthene (ft), the fungicide fluazinam (fz), the phthalate bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) and the trisiloxane-based detergent Break-Thru® S 301 (bt). For all single substance and mixture experiments with invertebrates, the absolute number of adults and juveniles as well as the number of juveniles relative to the control (in %) are given. Also, the tissue concentration (in µg/g), the measured soil concentration (in mg/kg dry soil) and the bioconcentration factor (tissue concentration/measured soil concentration) are given for effective concentrations. For the soil microbial community, soil respiration (in mg CO2/(100 g dry soil*h)) is given for all experiments in absolute values and relative to the respective control, while nitrate content (in µg N/g dry soil) for the single substance tests, both in absolute values and relative to the respective control (in %).
