Nonpharmacological Interventions for Paediatric Delirium in Paediatric Intensive Care Units: A Scoping Review

Paediatric delirium (PD) is a common and serious complication of critical illness in children, associated with prolonged mechanical ventilation, increased length of stay, higher healthcare costs, and adverse psychological outcomes. Non-pharmacological interventions (NPIs) are recognised as an important component of delirium prevention and management, but the evidence supporting their use in paediatric intensive care remains heterogeneous. This scoping review is being undertaken to systematically map the available literature on NPIs for paediatric delirium in PICUs, describe the interventions and outcomes reported, and identify evidence gaps to inform future research, intervention development, and clinical practice.
